We learn from Major Murphy’s report that DARPA correctly refused the idiotic gain-of-function research as too dangerous, so Fauci, et al. moved it to China. What was so compelling about this project that they wouldn’t take “no” for an answer?

Designed as an aerosolized vaccination for bats against specific SARS-COV infection?

They were planning on an attenuated, less harmful vaccine for the bats, but—according to this assessment—it got away from them while still quite virulent. (I still don’t understand the logic of engineering the vaccine to target human ACE-2 receptors. )
